My Weekly Journal

A weekly newsletter that gives you 5 personal interests that I share with you.

1. Monday, October 12th is Thanksgiving day in Canada. I am thankful for many things. My family, everyone is in good health and they are maintaining a positive outlook through these Pandemic times.

Thankful that we are still able to do our morning park training, karate, jodo and tai chi chaun with our dojo friends. Physical distancing and mask-wearing are practised and encouraged.

Happy Thanksgiving 2020

Other special days this week, International Day of the Girl Child, October 11th.

My Google Meet (Virtual Event) Kindle Creativity Workshop for children age 7 – 12 is scheduled to start October 22. Adults must fill in the form to register. Register early as spots are limited.

2. My eye candy this week, David Attenborough: A Life on our Planet, a documentary that provides a sense of hope. My take away – a hopeful review.

I love the spirit and the high energy dynamics of Flamenco. This week I stumbled upon a wonderful youtube performance: Faruquito y Familia.

A friend shared a video online and I found the message to be important for me and for our times, “How do you pass the knife…?”

3. RIP Percy Schmeiser (January 5, 1931 – October 13, 2020). His story, the movie Percy starring Christopher Walken and Christina Ricci will be released in Canada October 16, 2020. A David and Goliath story, as director Clark Johnson so aptly puts it. Percy goes up against Monsanto and GMO.

GMO Foods: Why doesn’t Canada label them?

In the award-winning documentary Modified, filmmaker Aube Giroux embarks on a journey to find out why genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are not identified on food product labels in Canada.

4. Fall is a great time to go to the market; I like to look for farm-fresh foods, primarily from the small farms. 19th Avenue Farmers Market is such a farm. We do our best to stay away from foods on the Dirty Dozen food list, opting for certified organic.

Support your local farmers, Mama Earth 100% organic foods from over 60 local farms; delivered to your door.

This week I will celebrate World Food Day on October 16th – Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together. our actions are our future. A virtual event hosted on Zoom.

For the kids join in on a Poster Contest, for budding illustrators between the ages of  5 – 19, create a poster of your favourite food hero at work. Download the free activity book from the FAO.org (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) to get your imaginative juices flowing.

5. This week I was bombarded by all things Harmonica, starting with Lester Butler and progressing to Howard Levy, seen here performing with Béla Fleck and The Flecktones – Lonesome Pine Special (1991). Some great playing.
