Hello all and welcome to my weekly journal where I share 5 things that piqued my interest during the week. Hopefully, there’s something of interest for you, or for your children.
1. This week happens to be Canadian Children’s Book Week. The readings and workshops that take place during Book Week can open a child’s eyes to the world of literature.
These readings and interactions with authors, illustrators and storytellers can kindle a child’s imagination and light a fire in their creativity.

2. Did you know that May 8th is my birthday? It’s also World Migratory Bird Day. The featured image is courtesy of WMBD.
Sing, Fly, Soar – Like A Bird; there are events happening all around the World. And closer to home, there’s The Birds and the Bees Gardening Workshop, a self-guided tour of the Humber Arboretum.
3. Miles Davis (May 26, 1926 – Sept. 28, 1991) month, that’s what May is for me. And as I celebrate the birth of the cool, AKA Miles Davis I am listening to some of his classic recordings.
I particularly enjoy his early, 1955-56 hard bop music. Round About Midnight, Birth of the Cool, Miles Ahead, Kind of Blue and Porgy and Bess are all fantastic recordings and they feature some of the greatest jazz musicians of our time. Miles with Coltrane in Paris 1960, a fine example of what I love.
4. What I am watching this week; documentaries, only in Canada can you jump on this, the 2021 Hot Docs Film Festival. An incredible line up of fantastic documentaries by some great documentarians.
5. My literary tastes this week include books I am well into, “The Sun and Her Flowers” by Rupi Kaur, a book to savour, each poem a story in itself.
Ekhart Tolle, “The Power of Now” each chapter a study on concepts that are at first read, obscure, intangible and enlightening.
A book I am just starting to get into; “How To Self-Publish and Market a Children’s Book” by Karen Inglis”. While writing this newsletter I have been listening to Ms. Inglis on an interesting Podcast by The Creative Penn team.
