Hello all and welcome to my weekly journal where I share with you five points of interest. Some things to motivate, to inspire, to enjoy or just to read about.
1. June 21st is the first day of summer, the summer solstice, it’s also, National Indigenous Peoples Day.
I have started reading, Indians on Vacation: A Novel by Thomas King and a winner of the 2021 Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour.
2. This week I hiked the Bruce Trail from Eugenia Falls to the Beaver River. I was in search of waterfalls and the trail started at Eugenia Falls and led to Hoggs Falls.
I didn’t make it to Hoggs Falls, it was starting to get late and I did not want to hike the trail in the dark. My boy scout training kicked in and my adversity to falling off the edge of the trail added to this caution. The Bruce Trail is next to the Niagara Escarpment, a 30-meter drop at some parts.
3. After our adventure on the Bruce Trail it was time for dinner and we checked out Blue Mountain, there are scenic views along the road to the village of Blue Mountain.
We stopped at the top of the mountain, a place where the cable cars give you a thrill. The open-air gondolas of Blue Mountain. A few photos of the breathtaking views and we were on our way once again.
We passed on Blue Mountain village and ended up in Collingwood where we enjoyed dinner at a Peruvian restaurant, Al Carbon; located on the main drag. Delicious food, great service and refreshing beverages were enjoyed by my hiking group.
After dinner what could be better than taking in a sunset? The sunsets over Georgian Bay are beautiful. A glorious way to end the day. Nina provided the featured photo of the sunset over Georgian Bay.
4. I’ve been watching football all this week, the European version, Euro Cup 2020. I watch Euro Cup and World Cup soccer, they happen every 4 years. Euro Cup was postponed due to Covid19, hence Euro Cup 2020 is being held in 2021.
5. This weeks ear candy: Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Rocket Science. My man Howard Levy, a harmonica innovator is one of the driving forces in the band.
I enjoyed a 4-hour tribute to Jeanne Lamon who led Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, a Toronto fixture in the classical music scene.
Violinist Jeanne Lamon, who led Toronto’s famed Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra for more than three decades and served as its music director emerita since 2014, died from cancer in Victoria, B.C., on June 20 at the age of 71.
