October 1 . Issue #111

Hello all and welcome to my weekly journal where I share with you 5 things that captured my interest during the week. This week is a first, a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a new training regimen, kids books and more…

1. This week, September 30th, here in Canada, we observed our first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It is a national holiday for Canadians of all backgrounds to recognize and reflect on the horrors of Canada’s former residential school system and honour the lost children and the survivors.

The holiday grants a paid day off to federally regulated employees and public servants, and some provincial governments have done the same for their workers, although not here in Ontario.

The law to mark September 30th as a holiday was given royal assent just weeks after 215 unmarked graves were discovered on the grounds of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia.

2. For my viewing pleasure this week the family watched a new version of Cinderella. A fun family classic re-imagined in a modern manner With hip hop and classic pop songs, Broadway-style song and dance and an all-star cast that carries the film through with some fantastic scenes.

3. River training and lake training filled my mornings with enjoyment. The featured photo is of me working my core and my balance while doing some long staff exercises. I am balancing on a fallen tree that is suspended over a river.

The morning lake training consisted of cold water swimming and canoeing around beautiful Lake Eugenia near Blue Mountain.

4. My book promotion, Exciting Reads For Children, is still happening and you can pick up some wonderful children’s e-books for free for a limited time, including my book Samba em um Dia de Neve.

5. My new book Scratchy the SquirrelA Time For Friends, is now in the capable hands of the editor. The illustrations by Joshua Miller, are almost complete. I have chosen the front cover illustration. Have a look at the sample above and let me know if you like it.

Thank you for reading. If you think someone you know would enjoy my newsletter please share it with them. If you are looking for a great children’s book check out my new book, Samba in Brazil;  Paperback version, on sale for a limited time.
