“This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before.” – Leonard Bernstein.

Hello all, welcome to my monthly journal. This month, music, my fall promo, a book festival event, and more. The featured photo, Quincy Bullen and I, jamming during this summer’s New Earth Love Festival and Artisan Market.

1 . With all that is happening in the world, we can still find goodness, peace, love, and light through music. The thought that music is the antidote, as reminded by my friend Chris Assad and memories of my online lessons with Chick Corea, who also believed that music was the antidote. This during a time of lockdown, and social distancing, yes,  the pandemic that we have all recently experienced.  I found myself immersed in healing music.

2. RIP Carla Bley (Lovella May Borg), musician and composer, born 11 May 1936; died 17 October 2023.

I got to see Carla Bley back in 2007 as part of the Art of Jazz Festival. This was a festival started by Jane Bunnett. I wrote a review about that concert, but the magazine is no longer, I must find my transcript.

I have been listening to Maqueqe, Jane Bunnett’s award-winning group. I have also been listening to some world-class chromatic harmonica players. Filip Jers, Antonio Serrano and Gregoire Maret.

3. I have also fallen for Dance, Ayodele Casel’s Chasing Magic.

4. My fall promo is still running: Fall into Middle-Grade – but only briefly; get my new e-book or a paperback Dojo in the Woods, my newest creation, a middle-grade adventure story.

5. My next writing event is on November 4, Indie Author Day. I’ll be at the Richmond Hill Public Library.  And I am going to read from two of my books. Come out and see me, hear me as in, listen to me tell you a fun story. I will have all my books available at festival prices.

Thank you for reading; if you know of someone who may be interested in this, please share. I hope to see you at the RHPL Indie Author Day event or one of the other events I’ll attend.

Be well, stay safe, and keep reading.
