Orange Shirt Day

Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters

In honour of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Canada’s Call to Action, MYAMS is committed to moving forward into reconciliation.

We commemorate the survivors of the residential school system by recognizing September 30th as the Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters Campaign.

Phyllis’ story: the inspiration behind the Orange Shirt.

Other stories; crimes against children that are tragic and sad, yet important in understanding our historic travesty.

We have found some excellent picture books by Indigenous authors. Stories about their culture and some of the dark moments in Canada’s history. Subjects like the residential schools are difficult to tell, but these are wonderful books that tell those stories and other unique tales from a First Nations perspective.
