My Monthly Journal

“Love the Earth, honor the Earth, her plains, her valleys, her hills, and her seas;
rest your Spirit in her solitary places.” Henry Beston

Hello and welcome! Fall has arrived in all her beauty. In this month’s journal I share five points of interest: things that are happening that I invite you to check out, some things I’m working on, and my adventures travelling, plus memories from Europe.

1. I’m transitioning away from Patreon to my beloved Ko-fi, where you can find some free stories for the kids. Read my short stories as bedtime literature, and while you’re at it, buy me a coffee or a tea. These are the things that help get the next project off the ground and into your hands. My latest offering Samba in Space.

2. This likely should have been the first thing I mentioned: my upcoming event, the Beaver Valley Handmade Artisan Market on November 14, 2026, 10 AM to 4 PM at the Beaver Valley Community Centre, 58 Alfred Street West, Thornbury, ON. I will be joining a group of artisans offering fantastic handmade artwork for the holiday season. Both my new books will be available: Book 3 in the Blue Mountain series (hey, wait, this event is in the Blue Mountains? Yes!), The Adventures of Willy Weasel, and my fourth book in the Samba the Dog series, Samba in Italy: A Halloween Mystery. I look forward to seeing you all.

3. Some of the things that made my autumn so enjoyable: getting back from Europe and being asked to teach karate at Naka Ima Karate Dojo while the chief instructor, Tim sensei went out of town; and the Creemore Art Festival, a two-day event in the beautiful town of Creemore, Ontario, this is a fantastic event that I’ve participated in on three previous occasions. I met lots of people, sold lots of books and had a really great time. Oh, and the weather was perfect for an outdoor art festival. I am very grateful to my hosts, Tanya and Chris, thank you and hope to do it again next year.

4. Canoeing the Beaver River, as close to nature as possible, on a late October weekday. A deserted stretch, departing from Epping and the access point number two, a glorious day, and the river calling me to be natural in nature.

Also taking in some easygoing hikes through the bush, the green forests of the Blue Mountains, and walks on the Bruce Trail.

Being on the river brings back fond memories of hiking through the island of Sifnos in Greece and along the coast of Marina di Pisticci in Basilicata, Italy

5. Back in Toronto, visits to the Naka Ima karate dojo and guest teaching spots that were unexpected but welcome. I also took in the final performance of the Fall For Dance North in downtown Toronto at the Jane Mallet Theatre: a 3:30 PM show by triple threat Liam Francis, performing his solo show, Lyre Liar. It was amazing, highlighting athletic dance, phenomenal choreography and an imaginative creation that captivated the audience. It ended with a triple curtain call and the whole audience chanting “Liam, Liam, Liam” until the lights came up and our cue to depart.

Thanks for reading. If you know someone who would be interested in my monthly journal, pass it along. Remember: stay well, be safe, keep reading and writing. Until next time, ciao.

All my books are available through your favourite bookstore or local library. If your library doesn’t have them yet, do me a favour and ask your librarian. They love a good request.
