Newsletter 26

Hello all, in this weeks newsletter I check out a concert in Australia, celebrate Family Day, talk about Zen  and walking. Among other items, including offering my book Samba on a Snowy Day (e-book version) for free, for a limited time.

In this weeks newsletter five things that interested me and I thought may be of interest to you too.

  1. This week I followed the efforts of Fire Fight Australia, and I am very proud of the efforts of Canadian artists, Michael Bublè and K.D. Lang who performed at the event that raised nearly ten million dollars. With so many lives lost, countless homes destroyed, an estimated one billion animals killed, around 11 million hectares of Australia’s bushland destroyed, TEG Dainty and TEG Live presented a spectacular lineup of artists to perform at FIRE FIGHT AUSTRALIA on Sunday 16 February 2020 at ANZ Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park to raise money for NATIONAL BUSHFIRE RELIEF.   K.D. Lang’s performance of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” was outstanding. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=176458543652237.

The band Queen, with front man Adam Lambert put on  spectacular performance as well, Queen reprise their  Live Aid Performance as part of Fire Fight Australia.

2. I have been studying Zen for a few decades. One of the books I keep coming back to is Zen Art For Meditation by Stewart W. Holmes and Chimyo Horioka. This is a book that helps me to focus, to find emptiness and silence in the Zen painting and the wonderful haiku poetry. In the authors words, “emptiness, silence, is not nothingness, but fullness. Your fullness.” And so I keep studying and searching for the emptiness that provides fullness. A part of my Zen training revolves around the art of Japanese swordsmanship. I have been studying sword with and without master teachers since 1990. One of my favourite movies that features swordsman is Seven Samurai, (Shichinin no Samurai) a 1954 Japanese film by Akira Kurosawa. For me one of the best scenes in the film occurs in this clip here: https://youtu.be/GF5U83UIX1o

3.  I donated my book Samba on a Snowy Day to a school library last week. The reports came in this week, that the teachers at the school love the book. I am so happy that they have found joy in reading it to their students. As mentioned in a previous newsletter I have joined a group of bestselling authors and we are giving our E-Books for free. Check the link, Children’s Book Give Away .  And if you feel inclined afterward, please leave a review!

4. Family Day was this week and I was fortunate to have the day off. What better way to spend a family day than with family. I got to jam with my grand daughter Leila, I played harmonica while she danced, sang and clapped to the rhythm, she’s a year and a half old. Great fun! We all had a wonderful time together, eating good food, that included some excellent Sushi and of course drinking tea and generally taking it easy.

5. Walking outdoors, the benefits are great. These can include exercise, fresh air, meeting your neighbours, seeing some interesting and beautiful things and all the while being surrounded by nature. I share with you these ten great benefits of walking and some good safety advice too.

Thanks for reading. If you like what you’ve read forward this to someone you think will enjoy it. Remember to check out my book, Samba on a Snowy Day available at your favourite book store.
