Hello all and welcome.
“For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone.
The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes.
To someone who doesn’t understand growth, it would look like complete destruction.”
– Marcel Proust –
Have you experienced growth or does this all look like destruction to you? In my search for the positives during this Global Pandemic I found more than a few. I share some of the positives during these stormy days.
1. Actor and filmmaker John Krasinski, has created and hosts a new web series entitled, Some Good News “SGN”. You can see the show on Youtube it is in a news style format and devoted entirely to good news. Krasinki is doing the show in isolation from his home — during this COVID -19 Pandemic.
2. In Ontario most of the parks and trails are closed to the public. Toronto’s High Park home to some fantastic Japanese donated cherry trees is also closed. The Toronto Parks people installed a camera to catch the cherry blossoms and so far over a million people have viewed what’s happening on the live video feed.
3. Herbie Hancock is one of my favourite musical talents. I spent time this week watching the documentary on the making of – The Imagine Project and listening to the album. So many great songs and performers on this record. I forgot to mention International Jazz Day last week, it happened Friday April 30th and if you missed it, well you still have a chance. International Jazz Day hosted by Herbie Hancock, at home – available for you thanks to Youtube.
4. My older daughter Adrianna has an appreciation of all things Brazilian, she is part of a dance company, Dance Migration, that features Samba dancing. When not dancing or teaching dance in Ontario she spends winters in Brazil.
Virtual Dance Class
The situation in Brazil at this moment is even more dire than what we are experiencing here in Canada. Adrianna wanted to do something to help the Brazilian artists, friends and mentors, and she came up with an idea to create virtual dance and music classes with some of the great artists of Brazil. A fantastic initiative, well done Adrianna.
5.) Sharing the love of reading with young people is important to me and it inspires me to want to write and tell stories that children can appreciate. Some children’s book authors who blow me away are found reading their stories to children and parents, or anybody who wants to listen from home. Jacqueline Woodson is one such author here she is reading from her book Pecan Pie Baby.
A brilliant video from Tom Foolery Productions – “The Great Realisation” growth in a time of isolation. “A bed time story of how it started, and why hindsight’s 2020.”
Thanks for reading, if you think someone you know would like my newsletter please share it with them. If you’re looking for a great children’s book, Samba on a Snowy Day is still available at Amazon.com.
