Newsletter 23
Hello all, in this weeks newsletter I check out the Grammy’s, give a nod to the Juno’s, Canada’s adaptation of the Grammy’s and discuss the events surrounding the Coronavirus. Among other items, including offering my book (e-book) for free, for a limited time.
In this weeks newsletter five things that interested me and I thought may be of interest to you too.
1. Grammy awards have been handed out and Juno nominations were announced as well this week. I was very happy to see some of the musicians I follow getting a Grammy award, especiallyRodrigo y Gabriela for Mettavolution in the Instrumental category.
Jacob Collier won two Grammy’s and his acceptance speech was point on, I was particularly impressed by this statement, “Do things on your own terms, do things in your own time, do things for yourselves, and give everything away.” A young man for our times, genius and generosity all rolled into one remarkable individual. Check out his sublime performance at Paste Studio in 2019.
2. The Crown a series I just started watching on Netflix and I like it. I did not think that I would enjoy it but this series is really well produced with excellent acting. An award winning show that provides a glimpse into Buckingham Palace and No. 10 Downing Street. I continue to read the Alexander McCall Smith, The No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series, great fun, such a wonderful writer.
3. Starting February 1st, I have joined a group of Children’s Authors for a free give away. Follow the link: February Children’s Books Giveaway for a free book, including my book Samba on a Snowy Day.
Thank you for having a look at my book. I hope you enjoy it and I would really appreciate it if you could visit Amazon Canada, or Amazon.com, the links are for my book, where you can add a rating and leave a review!
This week I was asked by a school administrator to make a video. Me reading my book Samba on a Snowy Day I jumped at the chance hoping to turn this into a great promotional tool and get into reading at the schools.
4. My karate classes are all about punching, kicking and fun. I try to make each children’s class mostly about fun. Sometimes however you get a child who does not want to participate. Luckily I have not had too many of those situations. There are many ways to deal with children who are reluctant to participate. I found a good site online Great Play, Interactive Gym For Kids they have produced an article that provides tips to parents that they can try with their children who may be reluctant to get involved in the activities. I especially like the point about leaders and how you can tell if they have children training and I believe what is mentioned is correct.
5. The Coronavirus has been declared a global health emergency and it is likely coming to a city near you. As someone who went through the Sars virus and was placed in quarantine, simply due to a visit to a hospital where the outbreak initiated in 2003. I can tell you that in Toronto and the GTA, Greater Toronto Area, a 100 mile radius around Toronto, a lot was learned. Having experienced and survived the Sars epidemic I am hopeful that the mistakes of 2003 will not be repeated and the virus will be contained. I remain optimistic and confident that all those in North America will remain calm and that sensible actions will prevail.
Thanks for reading. If you like what you’ve read forward this to someone you think will enjoy it. Remember to check out my book, Samba on a Snowy Day available at your favourite book store.
