Hello all!

Some things that interested me this week, and I hope will be of interest to you too.

Here are my five items, links or suggestions that should get you some inspiration and information.

  1. Are there any secrets to a long and happy marriage? I think that secrets are something you want to avoid in marriage. This month I will be celebrating 38 years of marriage – yes, to the same person, my lovely wife, Nina. I took an online relationship counselling quiz this week, bestmarriages.ca and I must admit it’s very accurate. According to the results I have a blue personality. My wife took the quiz too and her results indicated she has a gold personality, I think so too.
  2. I have been reading a book that is all about Zen and the Art of Seeing – aptly titled,  Zen Seeing, Zen Drawing by  Frederick Franck (1909 -2006) he was a painter, sculptor, and author of more than 30 books. In an interview with Josh Miller, the illustrator/artist of my upcoming children’s book, Josh touches on his inspiration for drawing and it seems to me that it is in this similar spirit that he draws from. To check out the interview visit PaulYanuziello facebook page there’s two parts to the interview, it’s just over 6 minutes long, in total.
  3. On the subject of illustrators and how they draw what they see, and feel, I have been checking out Gyo Fujikawa (1908 – 1998). An illustrator/artist who drew freedom in children’s books newyorker, for more information on her life, her art and the new book that follows her path (It Began With a Page: How Gyo Fujikawa Drew the Way, by Kyo Maclear, illustrations by Julie Morstad), read this wonderful article by Sarah Larson.
  4. I just discovered this excellent singer, Michael Kiwanuka – youtube “Cold Little Heart (Big Little Lies)” an overnight success, actually I don’t believe in that. Everybody comes from somewhere, hard work, devotion, a passion for what you do. His 2012 debut album Home Again went gold in the United Kingdom and his second album, Love & Hate, debuted in 2016 at number one.
  5.  Screen time – have you noticed some people are constantly on their phones? I fear I may be one of those people. How much time is the right amount of time to spend on your phone. A staggering 95% of teens have a smartphone and over 45% indicate they are on their phones constantly, teens-social-media-technology I am going to try doing without my phone for a week. Starting next week. I’ll let you know how it goes.
